Materials and finishes
Laidlaw anti-ligature hardware is made generally in stainless steel or aluminium. However, for some products, only one option is available. In certain cases, an applied finish is used. These are carefully selected to match the main hardware finishes.
10 year guarantee
Unless shown otherwise, all Laidlaw anti-ligature products are subject to a 10 year guarantee against defects proved to be the result of faulty manufacture or defective materials
Fire testing is an ongoing process with Laidlaw. Many of the anti-ligature hardware items have been included in tests on timber fire doors up to 2 hours and on steel fire doors up to 4 hours. The icon indicates the item has been successfully included in fire tests.
Primary & Secondary Barricade
Laidlaw anti-ligature mortice locksets have been designed specifically with safety in mind. The lockcase used on each mortice Lockset is designed with a unique mechanism to give priority to key holders from outside to minimise the risk of the lock being held in the locked position by holding the inside turn handle.
Three Levels of Safety
The mortice locksets have 3 levels of additional safety features which assist staff in maintaining the safety and security of the facility and its occupants by enabling quick and easy access to open the door in any circumstances. The main differentiation between the 3 levels of product is the speed with which access can be gained from outside.
AL-1 primary anti-barricade protection
The primary anti-barricade override feature ensures access can be gained by use of the external key operation at all times, even if the internal handle is being forcibly held. In general use, the turn and pull handles on the outside and inside of the door are designed to provide sufficient grip to operate the door but will not allow the attachment of a ligature.
External or staff side pulls provide higher levels of grip but to counteract the possibility of the door being held closed from the inside (barricade situation), staff can slot a full size pull handle over the outer pull to provide maximum grip and overcome any resistance being applied internally.
AL-2 & AL-3 secondary anti-barricade protection
For some applications, particularly bathroom locksets, where the lock incorporates a deadbolt for privacy, the lockset is designed in such a way as to allow partial disassembly of the lockset from outside to allow staff to open the door in an emergency or if the keyway has been blocked. This secondary anti-barricade override function is available in two configurations.
AL-2 incorporates a kit which allows speedy removal of the outer lock function plate to reveal a separate spindle. An emergency ‘T-Bar key’ locates onto the spindle to operate the lock mechanism. A ‘slide-over’ pull handle provides staff with extra pull to overcome the door being held by the inside turn handle.
AL-3 incorporates a kit which allows access to the concealed spindle simply by removing a cover plate. A special ‘T-Bar key’ locates onto the spindle and allows staff to unlock and immediately pull the door open using the ‘T-Bar’. This is an extremely quick and efficient operation, minimising the time required to access the room.
